"They voluntarily handed over the locally assembled firearms of different types (to the police)," Chief of the Jago Babang Police Precinct Adjunct Commissioner Hoeruddin noted in a written statement released on Tuesday.
"The residents once used the locally assembled firearms to hunt animals in the forest to meet their daily necessities," he remarked.
Hoeruddin noted that the residents handed over the locally assembled firearms after the police launched a campaign through law and public order messages focused on promoting law awareness among members of the public.
"As a result, they handed over the 14 locally assembled firearms voluntarily," he stated.
Anyone found in possession of illegal firearms can face a jail term in accordance with Emergency Law No. 12 of 1951.
