The judges increased his punishment to seven years as he was proven guilty of committing treason
Wamena, Papua (ANTARA) - The Supreme Court in Indonesia extended punishment to a 39-year Polish citizen Jackob Fabian Szkripsi to seven years imprisonment after the high court in Jayawijaya sentenced him to five years, an official said here today. "The judges increased his punishment to seven years as he was proven guilty of committing treason," the Jayawijaya District Court's head of general criminal act, Richarda Arsenius said in Wamena, Tuesday.

Szkripsi had been found guilty in May by the city court of Wamena for plotting with rebels of a separatist group in the country's easternmost province of Papua. Despite the court's verdict, Szkripsi denied any wrongdoing, pleading that he was a tourist.

The Polish citizen was nabbed by the Jayawijaya District Police officers in August this year and has been in the police detention facility during the trial.

Following the verdict, Szkripsi will be transferred from Jayawijaya Police jail to the Wamena Correctional Institution, Arsenius added. However, the transfer will be facilitated by the Ministry of Law and Human Right's penitentiary officers.

Szkripsi is the first foreigner to be charged under Indonesia's treason law and found guilty. (INE)
