This total export resulted in US$240 million to US$300 million in state income.
Bandarlampung (ANTARA) - Indonesian company Great Giant Pineapple exported 17 thousand containers of canned pineapple to several nations during 2019.

"The total export resulted in US$240 million-US$300 million of state income," Welly Sugiono, a government relation officer of the company, stated in Central Lampung, Wednesday.

Great Giant Pineapple has a total daily production capacity of 2,500 metric tons, while it produces some 300 tons of waste that can be used for cattle feed, he noted.

Since the government has been endeavoring to increase the export value on agricultural commodities, Sugiono echoed the company’s expectations of receiving support from the Agriculture Ministry, especially for an integrated cultivation process for commodities.

Moreover, the government is required to overcome any regulation obstacles pertaining to the global markets, such as the difference in tariffs for exporting pineapple to European countries that is yet charged 15 percent, while it is free to the Philippines.

"I wish that sort of obstacle could be overcome," Sugiono remarked.

However, he lauded the government system to ease the export process through in-line inspection integrated with the system of good manufacturing practice (GMP) and good handling practice (GHP). "It helps to accelerate the business process and to fulfill sanitary and phytosanitary requirements applied by destination countries," he added.
