"Before the document is submitted to the House, the coordinating ministers, law and human rights minister, and state secretary must make assurance that the document is accessible to the public," the president stated while instructing some high-ranking officials at a limited meeting at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Friday.
The document release targets the retrieval of greater inputs, criticism, and suggestions on the bill from individuals and civil society organizations.
"We have to be heedful of the people's demands and interests. Transparency is a process that we expect," he added, while prompting the Intelligence Agency, National Police, and Attorney General’s Office to also introduce the draft to all stakeholders.
Since being elected to a second term in office, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had vowed to revise over 70 prevailing laws and synchronize them into a single law, a concept that was popular as Omnibus Law.
Under his tenure for the 2019-2024 period, the president planned to draft two omnibus laws, including the Employment Creation Act and the SMEs Empowerment Act. The two laws cover at least 11 clusters and harmonize regulations issued by 30 ministries and agencies.
