The president distributed T-shirts among the residents after crossing the bridge from Kulon Progo District in the west to Bantul District in the east. The newly completed bridge was built in the vicinity of the dam that the president had inaugurated earlier in the day.
The president walked over the bridge along with Minister of Public Works and People's Housing Basuki Hadimuljono and Governor of Yogyakarta Special Province Sri Sultan Hemengku Buwono X.
Jokowi distributed T-shirts by tossing them out to the crowd of people gathered at the eastern side of the dam.
Ismail, one of the residents, was glad to receive a black T shirt from the president.
"I feel happy to get a T shirt directly from Mr Jokowi. He gave it to me directly when I stood in front," he recalled.
Ismail admitted to be waiting for the president since 9:30 a.m. local time on the eastern side of the dam. When the president and his entourage walked over the bridge, Ismail joined the crowd of people keen to shake hands with him.
"(When I stood in front of Jokowi), I asked him one. The residents were pleased with (the president's visit)," he added.
