Sleman, Central Java (ANTARA) - Sleman District, the Yogyakarta Special Autonomous Province, recorded 10.3 million tourist arrivals in 2019, surpassing the local government-targeted 10 million tourists.

Regional retribution revenue from the tourism sector during 2019 also exceeded the target, Head of the Sleman Tourism Office Sudarningsih stated here on Tuesday,

"Revenue target from tourism in 2019 was recorded at Rp5.82 billion, and its materialization was Rp11 billion, or some 104 percent," he noted.

The revenue target for Kaliurang, Sleman's major tourist destination, in 2019 was set at Rp2.5 billion, and it was realized at Rp2.84 billion, or 112 percent, though the number of tourist arrivals in Kaliurang had declined.

Sleman will continue to improve tourist attractions and supporting infrastructure to attract more tourists, he noted.

"We will improve facilities in Kaliurang. We will construct viewing towers, build more toilets and parking facilities, arrange landscapes, and also add tourist attractions, such as performing arts and cultural events at tourist destinations," he stated.

Sleman will also invite national artists and organize sports tourism events, such as the Sleman Temple Run, Tour de Prambanan, and Tour de Merapi.

District Head of Sleman Sri Purnomo noted that tourist arrivals rose owing to several factors, including the tourism calendar of events published in newspapers and on social media.
