Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry called to ensure that Sleman, Yogyakarta, provides psychological aid and ensures continuity of education for the region's 13 victims, who were sexually violated by their teacher.

"To address this issue, regional officials, ranging from the district government to the office, engaged in (addressing) women's empowerment and child protection issues, must proffer protection and company for these 13 victims, so they can recover," Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Bintang Puspayoga stated according to a statement received here on Thursday.

The sexual violence case has caused serious trauma to the victims, the minister remarked.

"The case of sexual violence perpetrated by a teacher in Sleman on 13 female victims has truly left a serious trauma on the victims and their parents. One who was trusted to educate turns out (to have been) traumatizing (them) instead," she remarked.

She opined that the trauma could haunt the victims for the rest of their lives.

Moreover, some of the victims were violated repeatedly for extended periods of time.

His administration also pressed for the educational needs of the victims to be met.

"On top of psychological assistance, the victims' future is an important thing. Their lives should not stop because of their traumas, and they must stay motivated, so they can pursue their dreams and become a generation that will maintain the nation," Puspayoga remarked.

She lauded victims, who had the courage to report the case to authorities as well as people, who consistently accompany the victims.

By reporting the case, the perpetrator would have no room to commit such violent acts on more people while also allowing the victims to get access to protection and recovery, so they can heal from their trauma, Minister Puspayoga pointed out.

She also commended the Sleman District head for taking the initiative to follow up with the case.

The minister expected that the district government can consistently ensure fulfillment of the rights to justice and recovery for the 13 victims.
