Tapsel (ANTARA) - Fire raged through 24 homes in Simarlelan Village, Muara Batang Toru Sub-district, South Tapanuli District, North Sumatra Province, in the wee hours of Saturday.

"The fire broke out at around 1 a.m. local time. The homes that caught fire were made of wooden boards and measured 6x6 meters each," Chief of the Batang Toru Police Precinct Adjunct Commissioner Daulat M. Z. Harahap stated.

No fatalities or injuries were reported in the fire that inflicted material losses of some Rp1 billion.

"The cause of the fire is yet being investigated, and (the police) will interrogate four witnesses and 24 victims," he noted.

The fire could be extinguished at around 5 p.m. local time. However, all 24 homes were razed to the ground.
