This is my way of paying tribute to Kobe
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Formula 2 racer Sean Gelael paid tribute to the late basketball legend Kobe Bryant through special artwork on his helmet. The theme of his helmet paid homage to Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna "Gigi" Bryant who died in a helicopter crash at the end of January.

Gelael showed the artwork on his helmet for the first time through his Instagram account @gelaelized. The protective gear will be used by the DAMS Racing Team racer throughout 2020 season.

"This is my way of paying tribute to Kobe," he said in a statement received here, Thursday.

The artwork featured graphics of Kobe's and Gianna's basketball jerseys, along with a logo with the initials 'KB' on the left side.

The 23-year-old seasoned racer hoped for Kobe's 'Mamba Mentality' to fuel his spirits to achieve success in this year's Formula 2 races.

He planned to use the helmet from the Formula 2 pre-season test starting in Bahrain's Sakhir Circuit this coming March, as he strives to quickly adapt to his new teammate Dan Tickum.

Bryant, who was five-time NBA champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist, died with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna Bryant in a helicopter crash northwest of Los Angeles.

The two, along with seven others in the helicopter were killed in the crash. They were traveling to his Mamba Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks, California, where Kobe was scheduled to coach Gianna's team in a tournament. (INE)
