Jakarta (ANTARA) - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi called on PT Indonesia-China High-Speed Train (KCIC), as Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Train Project’s executor, to immediately implement the Construction Safety Committee of the Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry’s recommendation.

"I have called on PT KCIC to immediately implement the recommendation of the Construction Safety Committee of the Ministry of PUPR, so that this project can be resumed immediately and can be completed in accordance with the time target," the minister noted in a statement here on Wednesday.

The Construction Safety Committee in its letter, had earlier sought a temporary suspension of the Jakarta-Bandung Expressway Project since the project was viewed as having an impact on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road service.

At least six notes from the Committee are that the Construction of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway Project pays little attention to the smooth access in and out of toll roads; disrupts drainage, road cleanliness, and safety of toll road users; causes puddles and traffic jams and disrupts logistical smoothness; LRT pillars being constructed without permits; and the occupational safety and health (K3) regulations not been applied properly.

However, KCIC President Director Chandra Dwiputra admitted to having taken steps to follow up on the records of the Construction Safety Committee.

The steps taken encompass disciplining contractors in the use of openings and access to work on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road on KM 7, KM 9, KM 10, KM 14, KM 15, KM 16, KM 30, KM 31, KM 33, KM 34, KM 129, and KM 141; ensuring that every toll road opening is equipped with signs, such as hose lamp, rotary lamp, safety fence, flagman, tire wash area, and traffic control zone; pumping water in drainage channels, cleaning drainage channels, and accumulation of material, especially in locations that had been flooded, and making temporary drainage to prevent waterlogging on the toll roads.

The Transportation Ministry and PUPR Ministry, along with relevant stakeholders, have agreed to jointly monitor the improvements made by KCIC in order to follow up on the Construction Safety Committee's recommendation.
