"This is an unseen enemy, an invisible danger. For that reason, we have to carry out the preventive (measures)," he said in the Vice Presidential Offices in Jakarta, Thursday.
The COVID-19 plague has spread rapidly and preventative measures need to be taken to break the chain, Kalla, who is a former vice president of Indonesia, added.
The spread of COVID-19 could be even higher, calculated using the series formula, he estimated.
"The spread of plague is like the series formula. One person gets infected and spreads it to three people, these three people then spread to another three, making the infection spread rapidly. This is what we need to break, with all kinds of preparations," he said.
Several preventive measures need to be taken by both, the government and the people of Indonesia at the moment including maintaining personal health and hygiene, as well as avoiding foreign contact and travel outside of the country.
"All public places need to be sterilized, otherwise it could be dangerous as viruses can spread easily," he said.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) has labelled COVID-19 as a pandemic and instructed all governments to take urgent and aggressive measures to prevent and address the virus' spread. (INE)
