Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI) Chairperson Jusuf Kalla (JK) officially launched the Ten Thousand Mosque Disinfection Spray Movement across Jakarta at Al Munawar Mosque, Pancoran, South Jakarta, Friday, for prevention against the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

"It is better that we are busy now than being busy at the hospital," JK, the former vice president, stated while drawing comparisons.

Kalla pointed out that despite no findings of people infected at a mosque, the clean-up movement was being implemented for prevention.

"Cleanliness must be maintained, as the virus spreads very quickly and easily. It is better that we get tired now than later," JK cautioned.

Kalla urged the DMI chapters in various regions to summon all mosque managers and conduct mosque clean-up movements on every Friday.

He called for the use of disinfectants during clean-up activities, as the DMI is ready to distribute disinfectant liquid to several mosques in Jakarta and across Indonesia.

"I call on all mosque officials to clean it yourself. Use disinfectant, for it is a must. It is better to get tired now. Cleanliness is part of faith," JK emphasized.

Clean-up activities at mosques across Jakarta begin with the Al Munawar Mosque on Jalan Raya Pasar Minggu Pancoran, South Jakarta.

Six officers from a pest control company were mobilized to disinfect the entire Al Munawar mosque.

On Sunday (March 9), the DMI conducted disinfection of the Nurul Hidayah Mosque, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, located some 300 meters from JK's house.
