Bandar Lampung (ANTARA) - A flash flood claimed one life and destroyed hundreds of houses in the Lampung provincial capital of Bandar Lampung on Monday night (March 30).

The flash flood hit the Sukamaju and Keteguhan urban communities in Teluk Betung Timur Sub-district, Bandar Lampung City, Teluk Betung Timur Sub-district Head Zulkifli stated on Tuesday.

In Sukamaju, the flash flood hit 139 houses, of which 33 incurred serious damage, 103 suffered mild damage, while three were swept away by water currents, he remarked.

The floods also swept through 15 houses and killed one person in Keteguhan, he noted.

"We have yet to receive a report on the number of neighborhood associations and houses affected by the flooding in Keteguhan, as the houses of neighborhood association chiefs were also hit by the flooding," he stated.

He said the Bandar Lampung city administration plans to build a public kitchen to cater to the food requirements of the affected residents.

The flood victims are in dire need of food, mineral water or clean water, he pointed out.
