As planned, the number of residents sent to the haj dormitory is recorded at 239. All things necessary for their accommodation have well been preparedSurabaya, E java (ANTARA) - As many as 239 residents of the East Java city of Surabaya who may have suffered symptoms of new coronavirus have been sent to the Surabaya haj dormitory for being quarantined for 14 days, a local government official said.
"As planned, the number of residents sent to the haj dormitory is recorded at 239. All things necessary for their accommodation have well been prepared," Chief of Surabaya Public Security Order Agency Irvan Widyanto said here Sunday.
The Surabaya haj dormitory has a total capacity of 375 beds. Each of its rooms has been equipped with bathing items, face masks, and hand sanitizer.
"We have also prepared a room for one family that may accommodate five people," he said, adding that the haj dormitory has also been equipped with rooms for medical treatment, supporting facilities, and a playground.
The local authorities dispatch doctors and paramedics to take care of the residents during the 14-day quarantine period, Widyanto said.
Meanwhile, Head of the Surabaya Haj Dormitory Sugianto explained earlier that two buildings had been prepared as a quarantine facility for the city residents suffering the symptoms of the new coronavirus.
Each of the buildings has a capacity of 24 rooms. During the quarantine period, the residents' health condition would continuously be monitored; and they were not allowed to leave the haj dormitory's area.
"They will eat three times a day," he said.
Coronavirus infections initially emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan at the end of 2019.
Since then, COVID-19 has spread to at least 202 countries and territories, including Indonesia, with a massive spurt in death toll.
The Indonesian Government officially confirmed the country's first cases on March 2 this year.
To contain the spread of the coronavirus disease, it has enforced large-scale social restrictions and distancing measures in many cities, including Jakarta, Bogor, Bekasi, Surabaya, and Makassar.
In breaking the chain of the COVID-19, the East Java provincial government also send homebound travelers arriving from abroad and other parts of Indonesia for a 14-day quarantine at observation centers across the province.
According to East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa, those arriving in East Java from red zones and abroad were quarantined in certain places across the province.
There are 7,387 villages and neighborhoods in East Java which have set up observation rooms, where homebound travelers can be quarantined for 14 days, she added.
