Padang, W Sumatra, (ANTARA) - West Sumatra Province reported 35 new confirmed coronavirus cases during the Eid-al-Fitr festivities on Sunday, taking the total to 478 cases.

"The team of diagnostic laboratory and integrated infectious disease research of the medical school and the veterinary investigation and examination center in Bukittinggi still worked until this morning. They found 35 people testing positive (for the COVID-19)," spokesman for the West Sumatra COVID-19 Jasman said on Sunday.

He said 25 of the 35 people testing positive for the coronavirus reside in the West Sumatra provincial capital of Padang. The new confirmed coronavirus cases are among 204 samples that have been tested.

Indonesia’s count of coronavirus cases swelled to 22,271, as of Sunday, with 5,402 people having recovered from the disease and 1,372 individuals succumbing to it.

In comparison with the previous day, the number of coronavirus cases recorded a rise of 526 and the number of recoveries increased by 153.

Government spokesperson for COVID-19 Handling Achmad Yurianto said 404 districts/cities in 34 provinces, he said, had been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

For this reason, he reminded all components of society to jointly fight and end the COVID-19 outbreak in Indonesia under mutual help.
