In its press statement that ANTARA received in Jakarta on Saturday, the Indonesian Consulate General in Chicago confirmed the safe and secure condition of Indonesians in the major metropolitan areas of Minneapolis and Saint Paul.
"The Indonesian Consulate General in Chicago has communicated with the Indonesian citizens in the Twin Cities area," it stated.
As of Friday morning Minnesota Time or Friday afternoon Western Indonesia Time (WIB), the Indonesian Consulate General in Chicago notified of the safety and security of all Indonesians.
According to CNN, George Floyd died after "a Minneapolis police officer placed his knee on Floyd's neck" while apprehending him on Monday evening (May 25) for allegedly attempting to pay a store with a fake US$20 banknote.
The 46-year-old African-American's death fueled public ire and protests in several cities across the US, including Atlanta, Georgia.
Meanwhile, in Minneapolis, several Minnesota State troopers surrounded and arrested CNN reporter Omar Jimenez and his crew members: producer Bill Kirkos and photojournalist Leonel Mendez on May 29.
They were apprehended when Omar Jimenez was reporting live on the violent protests that had hit the city over the past three days.
The CNN reported that Jimenez and his crew had been released from police custody. Due to this incident, the Minnesota governor apologized to CNN.
