"For specimen testing, I am upbeat out our next target to be set at 20 thousand (tests) per day. We should start designing it to get there," he affirmed at a limited virtual meeting on acceleration of COVID-19 pandemic handling held from the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, Thursday.
Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, Cabinet Ministers, and Chairman of the Task Force Doni Monardo partook in the meeting.
Jokowi also commended that specimen testing had reached 10 thousand per day, in line with his earlier target.
Some 246,433 COVID-19 specimens were tested in Indonesia up until June 3, with the total number of negative cases reaching 218,200, and the number of positive cases totaling 28,233.
According to the worldmeters.info site, the number of tests per one million population was 1,297, which indicated lower numbers compared to the tests conducted in several other Asian countries, included Cambodia, with 1,308 tests against one million citizens, Vietnam, 2,828 tests against one million population; the Philippines, 3,456 tests against one million populace; Thailand, 6,206 tests against one million population; Malaysia, 17,342 tests against one million citizens; and Singapore, 69,865 tests against one million people.
As of Wednesday, June 3, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Indonesia had reached 28,233, with 8,406 recovered and 1,698 deaths. The number of patients under surveillance touched 13,285, while people under monitoring reached 48,153, with the total number of specimens tested at 264,098.
COVID-19 has spread to all 34 provinces in Indonesia, with the highest figures of infection found in DKI Jakarta, reaching 7,623; while 5,318 in East Java; 2,319 in West Java; 1,688 in South Sulawesi; 1,455 in Central Java; 1,033 in South Kalimantan; 1,029 in South Sumatra; 954 in Banten; 858 in Papua; 685 in West Nusa Tenggara; 583 in West Sumatra; 490 in Bali; 456 in Central Kalimantan; and 444 in North Sumatra.
Data from Worldmeters' site showed 6,568,511 confirmed coronavirus infection cases globally as of Thursday, with 387,957 deaths, and 3,169,264 recovered.
Cases in the United States reached 1,901,783, while Brazil recorded a total of 584,562 cases, and Russia, 432,277 cases. In Spain, 287,406 cases were reported, 279,856 in Britain, 233,836 cases in Italy, 216,824 in India, and 184,425 in Germany.
The highest number of deaths were registered in the United States, reaching 109,142, followed by 39,728 in Britain, 33,601 in Italy, and 32,568 in Brazil.
