We, as the leadership (of the DPRD), have received a report of several legislators getting sick. Two of them have tested positive (for COVID-19)
Purwokerto (ANTARA) - The Banyumas District Legislative Council (DPRD) building in Central Java has been temporarily closed after two legislators tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

“We, as the leadership (of the DPRD), have received a report of several legislators getting sick. Two of them have tested positive (for COVID-19),” vice chairman of the DPRD, Supangkat, said here on Saturday.

Four DPRD members reported sick on Friday (August 21, 2020), with two of them exposed to COVID-19, he informed.

As a result, the DPRD decided to cease activities for six days — from Friday (August 21, 2020) to Wednesday (August 26, 2020).

Supangkat said the DPRD leadership on Saturday undertook precautionary measures by sterilizing and disinfecting the building, and conducting swab tests on all DPRD members, employees, and irregular workers.

A total of 114 DPRD members, employees, and irregular workers, excluding those who reported sick, took the swab tests.

“Hopefully, they all will test negative (for the virus) based on the result of swab testing on Saturday. This is our quick step to anticipate the possibility of our affected colleagues transmitting the disease to others,” he said.

Asked about the travel history of the two legislators who tested positive for COVID-19, he said, they had just returned from a working visit to another region.

“It is still being studied. It is only the COVID-19 task force led by Mr. District Head who knows it, where did it start from is still unknown," he elaborated.
