Jakarta (ANTARA) - A joint team of the Attorney General's Office, Jakarta High Prosecutor's Office, and Central Jakarta District Prosecutor's Office took into detention former president director of TransJakarta Donny Saragih, on the Wanted List (DPO) since 2018.

"Defendant Donny Andy Sarmedi Saragih was legally and convincingly proven to have committed a criminal act in accordance with Article 378 of the Criminal Code that carries a two-year prison term. Following the verdict, the convict was uncooperative and fled, so he was declared a fugitive," spokesman of the Jakarta Prosecutor's Office Nirwan Nawawi noted in a statement here on Saturday.

Saragih was arrested by prosecutors on Friday evening (September 4) at the Mediterania Apartment, North Jakarta, where he was in hiding until now.

The prosecutor's officers brought Saragih to the Salemba Penitentiary in Central Jakarta for serving his sentence.

Saragih was found guilty of a fraud he committed with Corporate Secretary of PT Lorena Transport Porman Tambunan in 2017. The victim of the fraud was President Director of PT Lorena Transport Gusti Terkelin Soerbakti.

Tambunan has been serving his sentence since the start of 2020, or January 29, 2020.

Initially Saragih and Tambunan convinced Soerbakti that the duo could handle problems pertaining to illegal trade of shares faced by PT Lorena Transport.

Soerbakti was then requested to provide US$250 thousand for the Financial Services Authority (OJK) through the two men.

"The money was handed over in stages, up to US$170,000 and Rp20,000,000, but the convict and Porman used the money for personal gains," he revealed.

Saragih was appointed as president director of TransJakarta in January 2020 by the Jakarta provincial government.

Saragih held the TransJakarta president director’s post for merely four days since he was immediately sacked by the Jakarta government after news of him facing legal problems came to light. Related news: Transjakarta provides 100 buses to serve four new non-BRT routes
