The parade is part of the endeavors to uphold discipline among local residents to wear face masks while venturing outdoors during the COVID-19 pandemic
"Since the transitional period of large-scale social restrictions was eased, new clusters of COVID-19 were found in densely populated areas. We have made efforts to remind the public (of the dangers of COVID-19), so the number of new cases will decline," Achmad Salahuddin, the Cakung sub-district head, stated.
Salahuddin noted that employees from different agencies, including the sub-district office, Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), and public health service post (Puskesmas), paraded the coffin, measuring 1x2 meters, to remind residents of the potential dangers of the COVID-19 pandemic that can kill its patients.
During the parade, the employees used a portable loudspeaker to draw attention of the residents to the dangers of COVID-19 transmission.
"Use masks. Remember that this time the number of COVID-19 cases in Jakarta is still high," one of the employees stated.
Dozens of residents were rounded up during the parade for not wearing masks and were imposed a fine of Rp250 thousand or ordered to clean the public facility for 60 minutes.
