We will replace old hardware (with new) and update technology for new (the latest) thing.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-owned lender Bank Mandiri has allocated Rp1.7 trillion of its capital expenditure this year to develop its digital technology and offer greater convenience to customers.

“We will replace old hardware (with new) and update technology for new (the latest) thing,” Bank Mandiri's information technology director, Rico Usthavia, said here on Monday.

One of the new technologies— Application Programming Interface (API) — will boost connectivity between Bank Mandiri and its digital business agents, he informed. The technology will cost the bank an estimated US$1 million.

Vice director Hery Gunard said the bank will continue to innovate, particularly in its open banking initiative, a move that will enable the bank to encourage the growth of the real sector.

Moreover, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, digital technology is badly needed to serve customers, he pointed out.

Not only will digital technology help serve customers better, but also, in the era of open banking, play a role in tracking current developments along with the growth of e-commerce and fintech, he said.

In the early days of development, e-commerce and fintech were believed to be disruptors in the banking industry because they engaged not only in transactions, but also financing, he said.

The banking industry, fintech, and e-commerce can collaborate to grow together, he remarked. (INE)
