Many residents had lodged protests against the dangdut concert.Semarang, C Java (ANTARA) - Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo has lauded the police for naming deputy chief of the Tegal City Legislative Council, Wasmad Edi Susilo, a suspect for reportedly hosting a dangdut music concert amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I thank the Central Java provincial police for its seriousness in handling the case. Many residents had lodged protests against the dangdut concert," he said here on Tuesday.
The naming of the suspect reflects the police's consistency in upholding the law, he said. During the COVID-19 pandemic, all elements of the nation must comply with the health protocols, he added.
The case would not have been registered had all sides exercised self-restraint and followed the health protocols, he said.
"We don't want to punish (anybody), but we want (everybody) to comply with public order. Let us set a good example," he remarked.
The police have charged Wasmad Edi Susilo with violating Law No. 6 of 2018 on health quarantine, chief of the Tegal city police, Adjunct Chief Commissioner Rita Wulandari, noted in a press statement released on Tuesday.
Susilo is reported to have hosted a dangdut concert for his children's circumcision and wedding celebration on September 23, 2020, which was attended by thousands of people, without adherence to the requisite health protocols, Wulandari informed.
"He was also not heedful of a police warning (to stop the concert)," she stated.
Wulandari said the police had questioned 18 witnesses in the case and seized several items as evidence, including a guest book, written statement from Wasmad Edi Susilo, and a video-recording. (INE)
