With 40 patients recovering from the infection, the number of COVID-19 patients treated at Towers 6 and 7 dropped to 2,375, from 2,415 earlier, the hospital's spokesperson, Colonel Aris Mudian, noted in a written statement released on Wednesday.
The 2,375 patients comprised 1,137 men and 1,238 women, he remarked.
The number of people conducting self-isolation at Towers 4 and 5 of the emergency hospital also declined by 327 on Wednesday to reach 1,945, from 2,272 a day before, he revealed.
The government has used Towers 6 and 7 to treat COVID-19 patients exhibiting mild to moderate symptoms since March 23, 2020. Towers 4 and 5 are specifically designated for asymptomatic patients diagnosed with COVID-19 and having no place to self-isolate.
The COVID-19 emergency hospital was earlier an athlete village built to accommodate participants of the 18th Asian Games co-hosted by Jakarta and Palembang, South Sumatra, in 2018.
President Joko Widodo inaugurated the hospital that can accommodate 12 thousand patients on March 23, 2020.
Initially, Towers 6 and 7 of the hospital served to lodge COVID-19 patients.
The hospital began accepting asymptomatic patients for isolation in Tower 5 on Sept 15 and Tower 4 on Sept 21. The two towers have a capacity of up to 3,116 beds.
Since Wisma Atlet began operating on March 23, it has treated 18,500 COVID-19 patients. A total of 15,789 patients were declared to be free from the infection after receiving treatment. Of the total figure, 4,152 patients were registered to conduct self-isolation. Related news: 109 patients discharged from Wisma Atlet self-isolation facilities
