Manado, N Sulawesi (ANTARA) - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that 912 Chinese tourists had visited North Sulawesi Province in Indonesia in August 2020 despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Chinese tourists came to North Sulawesi via the Sam Ratulangi Airport in Manado, Chief of BPS Office in North Sulawesi Dr Ateng Hartono stated here on Monday.

With the addition of 912 tourist arrivals, the number of foreign tourists visiting the province in the year ending August 31, 2020, had reached 15,876.

"The figure fell as compared to 87,312 recorded in August 2019," he stated.

In North Sulawesi, Chinese tourists spent on an average 1.63 days at star-rated hotels in the province in August 2020.

The BPS Office also recorded a 13.88-point or 53.04-percent hike in star hotels' room occupancy rate to 40.05 percent in August as compared to 26.17 percent in July.

The tourists stayed at star-rated hotels for an average of 2.23 days in August, up 0.02 points, from that recorded a month earlier.
