Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) encouraged farmers and fishermen in large groups to strive for greater economic scale and efficiency.

"Farmers and fishermen must be provided easy access to finance for technology," Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated at a press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday.

The minister affirmed that with large groups, farmers and fishermen will additionally have easy access to consumers.

To achieve this, Airlangga highlighted the importance of encouraging several pilot projects involving farmers and fishermen.

The minister noted that if the private sector can offer assistance to farmers and fishermen, the government can also guide farmers and fishermen with a corporate standard mindset, so that they do not get trapped in governmental bureaucracy.

On Tuesday, the president held a limited meeting of farmers and fishermen corporations for achieving economic transformation.

At the occasion, the president, in his briefing, urged his staff to offer assistance to farmers and fishermen to have a sound business model in place. Related news: Strengthen business ecosystem for farmers, fishermen : President
