Bandung, W Java (ANTARA) - Some 408 of the 14 thousand people holidaying in tourist sites in West Java's 15 districts and cities during the long holidays in late October were found reactive after undergoing COVID-19 rapid tests.

"During the long holidays last week, the West Java provincial government had conducted rapid tests for COVID-19 at several tourist destinations. Of the 14 thousand tourists, 408 were found reactive in rapid tests (to the coronavirus disease)," West Java Governor M. Ridwan Kamil stated here on Monday.

Kamil noted that the rapid tests were conducted at tourist sites in the province's 15 districts and cities during the five-day holidays.

"The 408 tourists found reactive to the virus immediately underwent swab tests. Since laboratory tests are in the queue, the results are yet unknown. In the worst-case scenario, they will test positive for COVID-19. However, experience has shown that not 100 percent of them will test positive for it," he pointed out.

Based on the mapping of COVID-19 risk zones in West Java, Bekasi City is categorized as a red zone, or area with high risk of COVID-19 transmission.

However, Bekasi is ranked first in terms of COVID-19 handling based on its testing, tracing, and treatment capacity, hospital capacity, prevention rate, and management, he noted.

"Bekasi has the highest score, followed by Bogor City, Cimahi City, Bandung City, and Cirebon City. I am upbeat that other regions would continue to improve their performance in handling the COVID-19 pandemic," he stated.

Meanwhile, Head of the West Java Provincial Office Berli Hamdani noted that most of the tourists receiving reactive test results to COVID-19 were non-residents of West Java.

"Of course, (most of them) were from Jakarta. Most of the tourists holidayed in Puncak," he noted.
