Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry has readied a draft regulation on business licensing in the marine and fisheries sector to boost the nation’s competitiveness in the global fishery supply chain.

"Ease of doing business, as stipulated in the draft regulation, is expected to eliminate the bottleneck faced by business operators, especially micro-, small-, and medium-scale enterprises, through the simplification of licensing and regulation and public service improvement," the ministry's Director General for the Empowerment of Marine and Fishery Product Competitiveness, Artati Widiarti, noted in a statement here on Wednesday.

Widiarti remarked that one of the goals of the job creation law was enhancing competitiveness of marine and fisheries products in the global fishery supply chain in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Hence, Widiarti affirmed that the government regulation on risk-based business licensing and monitoring mechanism would turn out to be a key point in attaining the goal.

According to Widiarti, the ministry had identified some challenges to be addressed to boost the country's marine and fishery product competitiveness that covers the aspects of human resources, manufacturing industry, development of business, and finance management, particularly for micro- and small-scale enterprises.

It also covers the aspect of investment and business financing, especially access to capital funding and acceleration of marine and fisheries investment through the creation of investment packages, business and licensing facility, development of investment promotion, and mentoring for potential investors.

"Another aspect is the quality and standard of marine and fisheries products related to losses, especially for micro and small enterprises, and meeting international standards in terms of quality, environment, and traceability," she stated.

Logistical and regional connectivity, marketing, and technology are also deemed important for the marine and fisheries sector, she remarked. Related news: Yudhoyono calls for revolutionizing business licensing
