"In spurring industry competitiveness, we cannot ignore a company's role in waste management," director general of chemical, pharmaceutical, and textile industry, Muhammad Khayam, said in a statement here on Thursday.
The ministry is promoting the development of green industry in the country, he added.
"We have held a dialogue on the potential use of solid hazardous waste in industry and electricity, and liquid hazardous waste management in chemical, pharmaceutical, and textile industry," he said.
The concept of green industry development has brought to fore the need for efficiency and effectiveness in sustainable use of natural resources, water, and energy, he remarked. It also covers the efficient use of alternative energy, the implementation of 4R (reduce, reuse, recycle, and recovery), application of low carbon technology, and minimizing waste piling, he added.

Khayam said the use of the Citarum river basin by some industries in the area has become a concern in view of liquid waste management.
"There are 431 textile companies, 20 chemical firms, nine footwear and seven plastic plants, and one precast company in the area," he informed.
The effort to establish an environmentally sound industry has become a priority under the Making Indonesia 4.0 road map, he remarked.
