Our country will become an advanced Indonesia not due to its natural resources, territory, or other reasons but due to superior human resources that we hope will emerge from the youth present here
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) Laksana Tri Handoko believes that the emergence of a prime young generation serves as the key and capital to achieve an advanced Indonesia.

"The young generation has always been an important part of our efforts to advance this nation and country," Handoko stated at the virtual opening ceremony of the 2020 Youth Science Week in Jakarta, Monday.

To this end, the LIPI head highlighted the importance of molding members of the young generation and equipping them with various skills and knowledge as well as honing their personalities that will create first-class human resources that can innovate, create, and compete at a global level.

The young generation is encouraged to harbor a spirit of innovation and creativity, develop critical thinking, and constantly seek solutions to detect and address problems encountered in the lives of the community and develop a proclivity for science and technology.

"Our country will become an advanced Indonesia not due to its natural resources, territory, or other reasons but due to superior human resources that we hope will emerge from the youth present here," Handoko emphasized.

LIPI has incessantly striven to build awareness of research culture among members of the younger generation through scientific coaching activities and organizing scientific competitions, such as the Youth Scientific Work Competition (LKIR) and the National Young Inventors Award (NYIA).

Since 1967, LIPI has had a Youth Scientific Work Competition (LKIR) Program to cultivate a liking and inclination for science and technology, research and innovation as well as create young human resources that are creative, dare to think differently, and come up with new creations.

"It is the capital to create a developed Indonesia in future," he stated.

The Youth Scientific Work Competition (LKIR) is an arena for Indonesian youth to showcase their research ideas in the fields of life sciences, engineering, earth studies, social issues, and humanities.

The National Young Inventors Award (NYIA) is a scientific competition for teenagers to innovate. The activity aims to enhance creativity, to be appreciative, and to explore the potential of youth in the field of technological innovation.
