Bandung (ANTARA) - West Java Governor M. Ridwan Kamil echoed the provincial government’s assurance that people living in new industrial and urban areas can benefit from all investments -- including foreign ones -- coming into the province.

Speaking at the opening of the West Java Investment Summit (WJIS) 2020 held virtually in Bandung on Monday, Governor Kamil remarked that locals living in the Rebana Metropolitan area should not become mere "spectators" when the economy in the area develops rapidly in the next one to three decades.

Rebana Metropolitan is the northern/northeastern area of West Java Province that includes the six districts of Sumedang, Majalengka, Cirebon, Subang, Indramayu, and Kuningan and the city of Cirebon.

The Metropolitan area has a population of 9.28 million, or some 18.82 percent of the total 49.3-million populace of West Java as of 2019.

"Every investor, who comes to West Java, must partner with a local company in the province. I do not want Rebana (Metropolitan area) to develop in 10 to 30 years, and the local people remain just spectators," Kamil emphasized.

The Rebana Metropolitan area is estimated to become a driver of economic growth in West Java in future through the development of an integrated, innovative, collaborative, highly competitive, and sustainable industrial estate.

"Let us say (in an investment project), the materials come from other provinces, the food supply is not from local residents, while the locals only work as security guards or office boys. I do not want that," according to Kang Emil, as the West Java governor is also nicknamed.

To this end, Kamil has urged regents and mayors whose areas come under the Rebana Metropolitan area to ready reliable and competitive human resources.

The West Java provincial government, under the administration of Governor Kamil and his deputy, Uu Ruzhanul Ulum, introduced a new industrial and urban area in the province called the Rebana Metropolitan area.

The Rebana Metropolitan area is home to the Patimban Port located in Subang District and the Kertajati international airport located in Majalengka District, in which both serve as a hub for connectivity and logistics.

Earlier, Governor Kamil had noted that the Rebana Metropolitan area will include new cities in seven industrial-based zones.

Later, each of those zones will be developed to encompass working, living, and playing functions.

By developing the Metropolitan Rebana area, the West Java provincial government seeks to boost the rate of economic growth by 10 percent and growth in investment value to 17 percent as well as create some 4.3 million new jobs by 2030.
