Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Institute of Social Economic Digital (ISED) has advocated to strengthen digital transaction security in Indonesia in the wake of increased use of digital technology amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The use of digital technology, such as the meeting application, for education, and in other social media platforms, has increased by 90 percent during the COVID-19 pandemic," founder of ISED Prof. Dr Sri Adiningsih stated here on Tuesday.

Adiningsih pointed to the development of digital economy nationwide, including in rural areas, and will continue to grow at a swift pace.

"The fast growth in technology has changed the people's habits of seeking information and improving their skills. Unfortunately, data security has still become the main threat," she pointed out.

A survey conducted by ISED indicated a misuse of 30 percent of the personal data, and some 48 percent of those surveyed were distrustful of online media or applications to divulge their personal data.

Adiningsih elaborated that the pandemic in Indonesia had increased the number of digital technology users by 37 percent, with more than half of it being residents in non-metro areas.

"Hence, equal and qualified infrastructure as well as digital security had become a key issue if development of digital economy were to benefit all people across Indonesia," she affirmed.

The survey also showed that 93 percent of the respondents will continue to use digital technology in the post-pandemic era. The e-commerce, transportation, and food sector, within a span of the next five years, will witness an annual growth of over 20 percent, she stated.

Meanwhile, Executive Director of ISED Julie Trisnadewi noted that the ISED has held a three-day online discussion on digital transaction on November 17-19 to commemorate its first anniversary.

Attendees at the dialogue comprised Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate, Financial Services Authority (OJK) Head Wimboh Santoso, and Director of Digital Economy Protection of the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) Arief Setiyawan.

ISED is a sociotechnopreneur established to create a platform for research, empowerment, training, education, survey, dissemination, and discussion of all matters pertaining to social, economic, and digital issues. Related news: Indonesia's digital economy has extraordinary potential: Sri Mulyani
