Medan, N Sumatra (ANTARA) - The North Sumatra provincial police seized over 500 kilograms (kg) of crystal methamphetamine and adopted stringent measures against offenders in the past 11 months.

"During my term of office as chief of the North Sumatra Provincial Police in the past 11 months, we, the North Sumatra Provincial Police and staff, revealed the cases of about 500 kilograms of crystal meth and took stern, accurate, and measurable actions against drug offenders," Chief of the North Sumatra Provincial Police Inspector General Martuani Sormin stated.

Sormin made the statement at a function held at the Convention Hall of the Garuda Plaza Hotel here on Wednesday to disseminate information on Police Regulation No. 4 of 2020 on self-initiated security arrangement.

The North Sumatra Police chief spoke of the police also having successfully dealt with crimes of violence, such as mugging and motorcycle gangs, by adopting stern measures against offenders. The success was inseparable from the support of the North Sumatra community.

He appealed to all elements of the community to synergize in maintaining security. The number of North Sumatra police personnel, reaching nearly 21 thousand, was not in proportion with the province’s population.

"Public order in North Sumatra is not only the responsibility of the police but also all elements of the community. The police requires the public's assistance. We must serve as police in our respective homes to prevent our families from the negative impacts of drugs," he emphasized. Related news: Palembang: Drug courier sentenced to 20 years in prison
