Jakarta (ANTARA) - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said Indonesia would lend its support to Italy’s presidency of the Group of 20 economies (G20) next year as it seeks to prioritize the 3Ps — people, planet, and prosperity.

"The theme of 3Ps is very relevant to Indonesia. [...] The government of Indonesia, particularly the Finance Ministry on finance track, [...] would prepare the G20 agenda on financial issues to create global economic recovery," Indrawati said at an online press conference late on Sunday (November 22, 2020).

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte took over the G20 presidency for 2021 from Saudi Arabian king, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, at the close of the two-day G20 Leaders’ Summit on Sunday night.

Italy’s 3Ps principle aims to address the social gap and promote equal opportunity for all people, as well as realize the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals to safeguard the planet, and accelerate new technologies for promoting people’s prosperity, Indrawati explained.

In the financial sector, Italy will focus on healthcare issues, strong economic growth, financing infrastructure, international financial architecture, financial regulation, financial inclusion, international taxation, and the green agenda, she added.

"The agenda on the finance track is exceptionally important, not only for Indonesia, but also for the world," she noted.

“Hence, for next year's G20 Summit, Indonesia together with Italy would make some preparations — since Indonesia is also going to take the responsibility as G20 host in 2022 — [so] that we always maintain year-to-year agenda continuity," she stated.

Indonesia was initially slated to assume G20 presidency in 2023, but that would have overlapped with the country's presidency of the ASEAN, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi told the press at the same conference.

"Indonesia has discussed the exchange for our presidency term in G20 with India, and fortunately, India has a similar intention to lead the bloc in 2023," Marsudi revealed. (INE)
