We ensure that services for the public would continue to run
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry has made assurance that public services would remain unaffected after Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Edhy Prabowo was named a suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission.

"We ensure that services for the public would continue to run," the ministry’s secretary general, Antam Novambar, noted in a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday.

The statement was also stipulated in Circular Letter Number B-385/SJ/XI/2020 on the Implementation of Office Activities within the Ministry's Scope, signed by Novambar on November 25, 2020.

He further noted that all personnel within the ministry's ranks were expected to continue to work and optimally fulfill their duties while still applying health protocols everywhere, including at work.

The secretary general also inquired for the workers to maintain their focus and high spirits while working and concurrently maintaining the ministry's internal solidarity, as it continued to offer optimal services as its key priority.

Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Edhy Prabowo was arrested along with 16 other people, including his wife Iis Rosita Dewi, over an alleged bribery case in permit issuance for aquaculture and/or fishing businesses and marine commodities in 2020.

Following his arrest by the anti-graft body, President Joko Widodo had appointed Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan to serve as the acting maritime affairs and fishery minister.

In connection with the investigation, the Ministry's secretary general urged personnel to honor the legal proceedings underway at the Corruption Eradication Commission.

"Let us focus on working and serving the public," he affirmed.
