Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Kalimantan Police arrested a man, identified by his initials as FA, 30, over claims of being a sympathizer of the Islam Defenders Front (FPI) and for posting hate speech on Instagram (IG).

"The postings on his IG (Instagram) account sry_mutmut_zee are proven to be a criminal offense (in line with the law on) ITE (electronic information and transactions) and fulfills the elements of SARA (tribe, religion, race and groups)," Senior Commissioner Hendra Rochamawan, spokesman of the Central Kalimantan Police, noted while quoting Central Kalimantan Police Chief Ins. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo in a press statement here on Wednesday.

FA was arrested as a suspect in Beriwit Village, Murung Sub-district, Murung Raya District, Central Kalimantan Province.

Director of Criminal Investigation of the Central Kalimantan Police Senior Commissioner Pasma Royce explained that the police’s monitoring of people's social media accounts found that FA posted several comments or statements containing undertones of hatred toward the government, community, and also famous scholar Abah Guru Sekumpul.

"From the results of our interrogation, it was found out that FA is a sympathizer of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI). There are not only photos but also videos and captions containing hateful words," Royce stated.

FA hardly socialized in the community though active on social media, the officer stated.

"Evidently, we have found 35 accounts from several cellphones that FA owns," he revealed.

FA will be charged for violation of Article 45, paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 28, paragraph (2) of Law Number 19 of 2016 amendments to Law Number 11 of 2008 on Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE LAW).

"(He faces) maximum imprisonment of six years or a maximum fine of Rp1 billion," he stated.

DetikNews online media reported that FA, on his IG, had among other things, cursed President Jokowi and the Police over the deaths of six FPI members recently.

The officers shot at the six FPI members since they attempted to attack them, according to the Jakarta Police. Related news: FPI leader's seven sympathizers named suspects over weapons possession
