One of the valuable lessons we can learn from the pandemic is how we can assist the public through social assistance programs that the government has implemented so far.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo held a limited meeting with Vice President Ma'ruf Amin and Indonesia Onward Cabinet ministers at the Presidential Palace here, Tuesday, to discuss ways to reform the social protection system.

Minister of National Development Planning/Chief of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Suharso Monoarfa remarked that the government will soon reform the social protection system.

"The topic just discussed is related to reforming the social protection system that we will launch in the near future," Monoarfa remarked during a virtual press conference after the meeting with the president.

The minister expounded that Bappenas had formulated a time frame until 2024 for realizing reform in the social protection system.

"One of the valuable lessons we can learn from the pandemic is how we can assist the public through social assistance programs that the government has implemented so far," he noted.

The president has tasked Bappenas with reformulating the social assistance programs in several ministries and institutions, the Bappenas chief stated.

The social protection system specifically focuses on keeping down the poverty rate to the lowest, he remarked.
