Sidoarjo, E Java (ANTARA) - Juanda International Airport in Sidoarjo, East Java, served 69,248 flights with 6.8 million passengers and 65,310,883 kilograms of cargo last year

"The highest number of passengers during the COVID-19 pandemic was recorded at 605,795 in December 2020," the airport's acting general manager, Indah Preastuty, said here on Saturday.

The number of passengers contributed 21 percent of the total passengers at 15 airports under the management of state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I, she said.

The 15 airports operated by PT Angkas Pura I served 31.8 million passengers with 38, 500 flights last year, she noted.

The number of passengers at Juanda Airport in 2020 fell 59 percent, due to restrictions on travel, in a bid to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

The number of passengers at the airport began to increase in mid-2020 or third quarter 2020, though the total number was not as high as the year before, she said.

"The (upward) trend in the number of passengers has lasted consistently since July (last year)," she said.

The trend continued until December 2020, though the management of the airport carefully checked travel documents of air passengers, she added.
