Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia, on Saturday, added 10,046 new COVID-19 cases in a single day, continuing to set records over three consecutive days, after it recorded 9,321 cases on January 7 and 10,617 on January 8, 2021.

This has brought the total case tally to 818,386 cases. Meanwhile, total recoveries have reached 673,511, while the death toll stands at 23,947, as 6,628 people recovered and 194 others succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, according to data from the Task Force for COVID-19 Handling released on Saturday.

Currently, Indonesia has 120,928 active cases or patients undergoing independent care and isolation, after being confirmed to have contracted COVID-19. Moreover, 69,865 people are categorized as being suspect.

The government today examined 57,666 specimens from 39,508 people in 566 laboratories across Indonesia, thereby bringing the number of examined specimens to 7,836,984 from 5,232,921 individuals, after the first two cases of COVID-19 surfaced in the country on March 2, 2020.

The country's COVID-19 positivity rate has reached 15.6 percent.

Provinces reporting the highest number of new cases include Jakarta, with 2,753 cases; followed by 1,731 in West Java; 1,033 in Central Java; 994 in East Java; and 580 in South Sulawesi.

Jakarta has registered a total of 203,411 cases and 181,535 recoveries, while East Java has the highest number of deaths, at 6,380.

In the meantime, Coordinating Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto spoke of restrictions being tightened in specific areas in all six provinces on Java Island and Bali Province for Jan 11-25, 2021, in a bid to counter a spike in COVID-19 cases.

"Limited restrictions are applied in the Java-Bali provinces, as the provinces meet one of the four set parameters," Hartarto said during a virtual press conference here on Wednesday.

Restrictions are to be tightened in Jakarta and its adjoining areas, including Bogor City, Bogor District, Depok, Bekasi City, and Bekasi’s districts, the minister noted, as well as partly in Banten, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Yogyakarta and Bali Provinces.
