We have arrested two suspects in the case, identified as CH and RL.Sidoarjo, E Java (ANTARA) - The East Java Customs Office at the Juanda International Airport thwarted an attempt to smuggle 6.045 kilograms of methamphetamine from Malaysia and arrested two suspected couriers, both Indonesians.
Head of the Customs Office Budi Harjanto stated here on Thursday that the illicit drugs were concealed inside the couriers' luggage.
"We have arrested two suspects in the case, identified as CH and RL," Harjanto noted at the Sidoarjo Police headquarters.
The police also seized ecstasy pills from the suspects.
"The two couriers attempted to hoodwink airport officials by concealing the drugs in the LED lamp and fan's engine," he revealed.
The COVID-19 pandemic that gripped the country for almost a year failed to deter the Directorate General of Customs and Excise from conducting its surveillance, Harjanto remarked.
The two suspects are under detention at the Sidoarjo Police Precinct and will be charged for violating article 113 (2) of Law No. 35 of 2009 and liable to face life sentence or death penalty.
Sidoarjo Police Chief Senior Commissioner Sumardji stated that the police will investigate the case further.
