Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) highlighted the team’s focus on finding Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 plane’s Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) during eighth day of extended operations after crashing into the Java Sea on Dec 9.

"We have not found the CVR. What has been in circulation is only the 'casing, the wrapper,'" Basarnas Operations Director Brigadier General Rasman stated at the JICT 2 Pier, Tanjung Priok, here on Saturday.

The black box comprises two parts -- CVR and Flight Data Recorder (FDR) -- that record flight activities.

Commander of the Fleet Command (Koarmada) I Rear Admiral Abdul Rasyid earlier stated that part of the CVR -- the battery and casing -- were found by a team of divers on Friday (Jan 15).

However, the most important part of the CVR -- the memory unit – had yet to be salvaged.

Meanwhile, the Joint SAR Team found the FDR on January 12, 2021, in the waters of the Thousand Islands.

The joint SAR team will maximize search for the CVR, victims, and debris of SJ-182 on the first day of extension of the search operation for three days, or until Monday (Jan 18).

The Joint SAR team has involved 360 divers to search for the three objects.

For underwater searches, the Joint SAR team will prioritize searches in four sectors, with each area reaching four nautical miles (NM2), or a total of 16 nautical miles in the waters of Thousand Islands.

The SAR team has deployed four boats -- KR Baruna Jaya, KRI Rigel, MGS Team, and KS Ara Kemekomarves -- for underwater search.

An Underwater Metal Detector and Remote Operated Underwater Vehicle (ROV) were deployed for conducting underwater search.

The SJ-182 carried 62 people on board when it crashed just four minutes after taking off from the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, on its way to Pontianak, West Kalimantan. Related news: Research vessel finds suspected location of second black box
