I only found a shop-cum-house owner taking out his motorcycle because it was raining when the fire occurredPontianak, W Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Seven shop-cum-houses in Singkawang City, West Kalimantan Province, caught fire in the wee hours of Friday.
An eyewitness, Wahyu, who works as a security guard of the state-owned lender Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) branch, located opposite to the shop-cum-houses, believed the fire originated from an internet cafe, Cyber X.
Wahyu spoke of having seen a column of thick smoke billowing from the shop-cum-house.
The eyewitness said he did not see other people at the scene when the fire broke out at about 3 a.m. local time.
"I only found a shop-cum-house owner taking out his motorcycle because it was raining when the fire occurred," he stated.
Fire trucks arrived at the scene a few minutes after he requested a bank customer, who was withdrawing money from the ATM at the time, to call the local fire department.
No fatalities and injuries were reported.
The police is still investigating the cause of the fire.
