Jakarta (ANTARA) - With the COVID-19 pandemic limiting our activities outside of home, especially during weekends, streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Go, Disney +, Hulu, and others have become a mainstay of our stay-at-home lives.

Adapting to their new role of catering to people’s leisure needs, streaming services appear to have responded with great care and attention, launching new films, documentaries, and series nearly every month.

With so many new films and series on offer, viewers are spoilt for choice, especially on weekends.

To help you choose, ANTARA has curated four new releases, ranging from science fiction, fantasy, to crime, that are worth binge-watching at home.

1. Sisyphus: The Myth (2021)

Sisyphus: The Myth (Korean: 시지프스: the myth) is a South Korean television series available both on Netflix and television network JTBC. Each episode of the series is being released on the streaming app after the television broadcast. The series, which offers a dystopian look at the future, stars Cho Seung-woo (Strangers, Tazza: The High Rollers, The Sword with No Name) and Park Shin-hye (#Alive, Memories of Alhambra, Doctors).

The series relates a time-travel story about a genius engineer Han Tae-sul (Cho Seung-woo) and his protector from the future, Kang Seo-hae (Park Shin-hye). The plot begins in the future when Kang Seo-hae is preparing to travel back to the present time. Her mission: to save Han Tae-sul from the Control Bureau, an intelligence agency from the future.

Unaware of the threats and dangers dogging his steps, Han Tae-sul is busy dealing with his own problems — taking care of his business and investigating his late brother, who has come back to life.

2. Space sweepers (2021)

Space Sweepers (Korean: 승리호) is a South Korean movie that takes a grim view of the future. Directed by Jo Sung-hee, the film stars some of the highest-paid actors, including Song Joong-ki (Descendants of the Sun, The Battleship Island, Running Man, Vincenzo), Kim Tae-ri (The Handmaiden, Mr. Sunshine, Little Forest), Jin Seon-kyu (The Outlaws, Extreme Job), and award-winning actor, Yoo Hae-jin (A Taxi Driver, 1987: When the Day Comes, Luck Key).

The movie, dubbed as the first Korean space blockbuster, has become available on Netflix after its premier on February 5, 2021. The plot unfolds in the year 2092, when the Earth has become all but uninhabitable. People across the world are risking their lives working as space debris collectors or space sweepers in exchange for money and basic staples.

At a time when the Earth is widely polluted, a corporation called UTS builds a new spacecraft that mimics lives on Earth, offering people a new home. However, only the rich and a handful of select individuals have permits to start a better life in the spacecraft as UTS citizens.

Struggling with the unjust and unequal system imposed by UTS, a group of four space-sweeper misfits try to uncover the truth kept hidden by the corporation after they accidentally stumble upon the company's greatest asset, a child-like robot named Dorothy, which is also a weapon for mass destruction.

3. Behind Her Eyes (2021)

With just six episodes, all available on Netflix, Behind Her Eyes can be a perfect weekend watch. The British web series is an adaptation of the 2017 eponymous novel created by Sarah Pinborough. The series, which premiered on February 17, 2021, stars Eve Hewson, Tom Bateman (Da Vinci's Demons, Murder on the Orient Express), Simona Brown, and Robert Aramayo.

The psychological thriller follows the story of Louise (Simona Brown), a single mother living in central London, who has an affair with the new boss David (Tom Bateman). On a separate occasion, Louise has accidentally befriended David's wife, Adele, and the three start a troublesome love affair/friendship which later turns into a dangerous web of secrets.

The first two episodes may make the series seem like just another love affair story, but as the episodes unfold, viewers are treated to a series of unexpected and twisted revelations to the love story of Louise and the couple.

4. I Care A Lot (2020)

After its world premier at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 12, 2020, I Care A Lot was released on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video in February, 2021. The movie stars Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl, Pride and Prejudice), Dianne West (Footloose, Edward Scissorhands, The Birdcage, Sisters), Isiah Whitlock Jr., Chris Messina (Julie & Julia, Celeste and Jesse Forever, Argo, Ruby Sparks), and Eliza Gonzalez (Baby Driver, Alita: Battle Angle).

Directed by J Blakeson, the dark thriller comedy follows the story of a con artist named Marla Grayson (Rosamund Pike) who runs a scam pursuing court orders seeking guardianship over rich elders. One day, Grayson, in partnership with Dr. Karen Amos, eyes a potential elder, Jennifer, a retired businesswoman living a comfortable life with abundant assets.

After convincing the judge that Jennifer is incapable of taking care of her own life, Marla gets a court order to be her new guardian. Marla and her business partner/girlfriend, Fran, then move Jennifer to an assisted living facility, which is party to their fraud schemes. It is only later that Marla finds out that Jennifer has been using a false identity and may be the mother of a Russian mafia boss, who is ready to hurt the con artists.

For many critics, the main reason for watching the movie is Rosamund Pike’s portrayal of a villain, especially after her success in Gone Girl (2014), a thriller directed by David Fincher. (INE)
