The 46th Foodex offers momentum for Indonesia's food and beverage products to seize the opportunity and the benefits of the event amid the COVID-19 pandemic.Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia will showcase its food and beverage products at the 46th International Food and Beverage Exhibition (Foodex) 2021 on March 9-12 in Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Japan.
"The 46th Foodex offers momentum for Indonesia's food and beverage products to seize the opportunity and the benefits of the event amid the COVID-19 pandemic," Trade Minister Muhammad Lutfi noted in a statement here on Wednesday.
The expo is a forum for Japanese and international buyers to choose from a wide array of food and beverage products, the minister remarked.
The ministry's Director General of National Export Development, Kasan, stated that Foodex will offer a platform for Indonesia to expand its products in the Japanese market.
"Our participation in this exhibition will promote Indonesia's food and beverage products in Asia, especially in Japan, and in the world market," he affirmed.
In 2019, over three thousand participated in Asia's largest food and beverage exhibition and drew 80 thousand visitors from 94 countries.
However, the event in 2020 was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In Foodex 2021, Indonesia's Pavilion was set up on a 72 square meters of exhibit zone in hall 4.
The pavilion was set up by the Trade Ministry's Directorate of National Export Development, Indonesian trade representatives in Japan, Agriculture attaché, Bank Indonesia representative office in Tokyo, and the North Sulawesi provincial and Bali provincial administrations.
Some 13 Indonesian representatives, including distributors of some food products, will showcase their products in Indonesia's Pavilion.
Organic honey products, fruits, and coconut-based products will also be on display in the pavilion.
The government has facilitated small and medium enterprises (SMEs) under the mentorship of the Agriculture Ministry, the central bank Bank Indonesia, Bali Province and North Sulawesi Province.
The SMEs' products comprise organic cacao, chips, coffee, and products of porang (Amorphophallus muelleri).
Kasan noted that Japan had continued to impose entry restriction on foreigners to the country. It had prioritized producers that already had representatives or distributors in Japan to participate in Foodex 2021.
"It also accorded priority to products that have good prospects in Japan and are willing to send samples of the products to connect with potential buyers during the exhibition," Kasan remarked.
