Meulaboh, Aceh (ANTARA) - Two gold miners died on Sunday after they were trapped under a collapsed tunnel at PT Pinang Sejati Utama's mining site in Simpang Dua Kemukiman Manggamat village, Kluet Tengah sub-district, Aceh Selatan district, Aceh province.

Alkindi Nur (47), a resident of Pulo Kambing village in Kluet Utara sub-district, and Muswardi (27), a resident of Teupih Gajah village in Pasie Raja sub-district, were killed after the tunnel they were digging with other miners collapsed, said Kluet Tengah police chief, First Insp.Jamaluddin.

Six other miners survived the accident, with three miners, identified as Razali (36), Al Hafid Danil Ulia (21), and Satriwan, who are all local residents, sustaining injuries, Jamaluddin told journalists here on Tuesday.

The three other survivors did not sustain any injuries as they managed to escape the underground site when the tunnel collapsed and triggered a landslide, he said.

Local villagers joined the rescue effort to save and evacuate miners by digging through debris from the landslide that buried them, he added.

"We are probing this case," Jamaluddin said. (INE)
