Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) forecasts heavy rains with lightning and strong winds in several regions in Indonesia, including parts of Sumatra, Java and Kalimantan.

Seroja tropical cyclone was observed in the Indian Ocean in the southern part of Central Java at a speed of 75 kilometers (km) per hour, moving to the southwest and forming a meeting area and slowing wind speed or convergence from the north coast of West Java to the southern coast of Central Java, according to information issued by the agency on Sunday,

In addition, Tropical Cyclone Odette was also detected in the Indian Ocean, southwest of Banten, forming a low level jet or relatively strong winds in the lowest part of the atmosphere. This condition causes an increase in the potential for rain cloud growth around the Seroja and Odette Tropical Cyclone systems.

Some areas that have the potential to experience heavy rains accompanied by lightning and strong winds on Sunday were Aceh, Bengkulu, Jambi, South Sumatra, Bangka Belitung Islands, Lampung, Banten, West Java, Central Java, East Java, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, North Kalimantan and East Kalimantan.

BMKG also predicted heavy rains, lightning and strong winds in Central Sulawesi, West Sulawesi and Maluku.

Other areas having the potential to experience rains were North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Jakarta, West Nusa Tenggara, South Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi and Papua.

The BMKG also warned of possible floods and flash floods due to heavy rains from Sunday to Monday at 7 a.m. local time in Aceh, West Java, East Java and North Kalimantan. Residents of East Nusa Tenggara, North Maluku, Maluku, West Papua and Papua were also urged to remain vigilant of possible natural disasters.
