Jayapura (ANTARA) - The coffin of Udin, a motorcycle taxi (Ojek) driver shot dead by an armed Papuan criminal group on Wednesday, was flown to Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Thursday.

On Thursday morning, slain Udin's coffin was moved to the Timika public hospital in Mimika District, Papua Province, from Aminggaru Airport in Ilaga, Puncak District.

"His coffin was flown aboard a PT SAS aircraft from Ilaga," Head of the Mozes Kilangin Airport's Aviation Security 2nd Inspector Andi Batilu informed ANTARA.

Deceased Udin's wife and relatives also boarded the aircraft from Puncak to Mimika on Thursday morning, Batilu stated.

"On Thursday afternoon, Udin's coffin was scheduled to be flown to Makassar aboard a Sriwijaya Air aircraft for burial in his hometown," according to Batilu.

Udin was shot dead by members of an armed criminal group operating in Puncak District after he dropped off his passenger in the Eromaga neighborhood of Omikia Sub-district on Wednesday (April 14).

Udin suffered grave gunshot wounds on his right chest, and the bullet pierced his back and left cheek.

Papua Province has borne witness to a string of violent attacks by notorious armed Papuan criminals targeting civilians and security personnel in the past two years.

Intan Jaya witnessed its most gruesome month in September 2020, with notorious armed groups launching a bevy of attacks in the area that claimed the lives of two soldiers and two civilians and left two others injured.

These notorious armed Papuan groups have continued their acts of terror this year. Prior to Udin being killed on February 8, 2021, an armed rebel reportedly shot a 32-year-old man at close range in Bilogai Village, Sugapa Sub-district.

The victim, identified by his initials as RNR, sustained gunshot wounds on the face and right shoulder and was taken to the Timika Public Hospital in Mimika District on February 9.

On February 9, 2021, six armed Papuans fatally stabbed an ojek driver.

The armed groups often employ hit-and-run tactics against Indonesian security personnel, while they unleash acts of terror against civilians to instill a sense of fear.

On April 8, 2021, several armed Papuan criminals again assaulted civilians. They opened fire at a kiosk in Julukoma Village, Beoga Sub-district, Puncak District, at about 9:30 a.m. local time.

The shooting incident resulted in the death of a Beoga public elementary school teacher, Oktovianus Rayo.

After killing Rayo, the armed attackers continued their acts of terror by torching three classrooms of the Beoga public senior high school.

On Friday (April 9), the armed Papuan criminals again assaulted another teacher, Yonatan Randen. This junior high school teacher was shot on his chest.

Several villagers attempted to save Randen's life by moving him to the Beoga public health center, but he died.

On Sunday evening (April 11), the armed criminals set ablaze nine classrooms of the Beoga public junior high school.
