Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) forecast that the Surigae Tropical Cyclone will affect weather conditions in parts of Indonesia in the next 24 hours when the cyclone moves away from the Indonesian territory.

On the basis of a BMKG press release here on Friday, the Surigae Tropical Cyclone is expected to move westward, with increasing intensity in the next 24 hours.

According to the BMKG analysis, the Surigae Cyclone was detected at 7:00 WIB in the Pacific Ocean, north of West Papua, some 1,070 kilometers north of Manokwari.

Meanwhile, in the next 24 hours, the cyclone is expected to make landfall in the Pacific Ocean, the northern part of West Papua, some 1. 310 kilometers north-west of Manokwari.

The cyclone is expected to strengthen while moving away from the Indonesian territory, so it can have an indirect impact on parts of Indonesia.

That cyclone movement has the potential to cause moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and strong winds in the regions of North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Central Sulawesi, North Maluku, Maluku, and West Papua.

In addition, the cyclone is estimated to produce waves reaching heights of 1.25 to 2.5 meters in the central and eastern parts of Sulawesi Sea, the waters of Sangihe Islands - Talaud Islands, Sitaro Islands waters, Bitung waters - Likupang, Maluku Sea, Southern waters of North Sulawesi, waters of Halmahera Islands, Halmahera Sea, northern Raja Ampat waters, Manokwari waters, Biak waters, northern Cendrawasih Bay, and Jayapura to the Sarmi waters.

The cyclone can also potentially produce waves reaching as high as 2.5 to four meters in the northern Pacific Ocean of Halmahera and the northern Pacific Ocean of Jayapura and four- to six-meter-high waves in the northern Pacific Ocean of West Papua to Biak.
