Our renewable energy strategy covers geothermal energy, hydro power, solar PV, bioenergy, and wind
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan echoed the Indonesian government's pledge to lower greenhouse gas emissions by applying clean energy practices.

The minister reiterated the commitment at Tri Hita Karana High-Level Climate Dialog themed “Indonesia's Clean Energy Transition and Climate Ambition for Zero Emission” held virtually on Thursday.

Indonesia remains committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 29 percent by utilizing its domestic resources and by up to 41 percent with international assistance that encompasses funding, transfer of technology, and capacity building under a business-as-usual scenario in 2030.

"We plan to reduce 198.27 million tons (of C02) in 2025 and up to 314 million tons in 2030," he stated.

Pandjaitan noted that the ministry's task force was working on preparing a road map for Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC).

The energy sector alone has, so far, accounted for 11 percent of the 29-percent commitment in the NDC. This sector is committed to lowering greenhouse gas emission by about 314 million tons of CO2 to 398 million tons of CO2, or nearly 38 percent, in 2030 through renewable energy development , energy efficiency, and energy conservation

The government is formulating the national energy mix to increase its new and renewable energy mix to 23 percent in 2025 and 31 percent in 2050, he stated.

"Our renewable energy strategy covers geothermal energy, hydro power, solar PV, bioenergy, and wind. We are committed to accelerating the development of the renewable energy project in Indonesia and invite investors to participate in the project in future," he remarked.
