Jakarta (ANTARA) - A terror suspect, MT, 49, shot dead by the Indonesian Police's anti-terror squad, Densus 88, was a former terror convict, according to spokesman of the Indonesian Police Senior Commissioner Pol Ahmad Ramadhan.

"MT is a former terror convict jailed in 2013 and released in 2016," Ramadhan stated at the Indonesian Police Headquarters here on Friday.

MT was shot dead by Densus 88 for attacking the police during a raid at his home in South Sulawesi's capital, Makassar, on Thursday (April 15).

"MT aggressively attacked the police and lunged at them with two swords," he remarked.

MT was a member of Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) that had joined the Villa Mutiara group. The group was allegedly linked to the suicide bombing at the entrance of Cathedral Church in Makassar on March 28 that killed the two bombers and injured at least 20 churchgoers, security guards, and bystanders.

"MT was involved in a bomb attack during the electoral campaign of a gubernatorial candidate YL," he stated.

Densus 88 seized two long machetes during the raid.

The anti-terror squad has, so far, arrested 31 terror suspects in Makassar and its adjoining regions in connection with the suicide bombing in the Makassar Cathedral Church.

The latest raids were conducted on Tuesday in which seven suspects were arrested by Densus 88 at separate locations.

The bombers were identified as a married couple -- Muh Lukman, 26, and wife Yogi Sahfitri Fortuna aka Dewi -- believed to be members of the JAD. Related news: Densus 88 apprehends six terror suspects in Makassar
