Malang, Jawa Timur (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) conducted an inspection of the planting and harvesting process of rice in Kanigoro Village, Pagelaran Sub-District, Malang District, East Java, Thursday.

Upon arrival, Jokowi was welcomed by Governor of East Java Khofifah Indar Parawansa and Malang District Head M. Sanusi to observe and check the rice harvest and the process of rice planting in Malang District.

"I am currently in Kanigoro Village, Pagelaran Sub-District, Malang District, East Java Province, to witness the first harvest and second planting, and the third to observe the rice milling unit and grinding," Jokowi noted.

During the visit, the head of state was accompanied by Chairman of the House of the Representatives Puan Maharani and the ministers. The president had the opportunity to greet and hold a dialog with representatives of farmers from Kanigoro Village and the local community.

Jokowi noted that during the visit, he was keen to ensure that rice production could meet the requirements of Indonesian people. If this suffices, then the government will not require to import rice.

On the occasion, Jokowi lauded the efforts of farmers, especially in Malang District, which were able to boost rice productivity by producing the IPB 3S variety of rice plants.

By producing the IPB 3S variety based on calculations, productivity for one hectare of rice fields can reach 12 tons of unhulled rice.

According to President Jokowi, this figure is a productive outcome.

"This is a very good result, and it can be developed in even greater numbers," the president stated.

President Jokowi is embarking on a series of work visits to East Java Province. Under the first agenda, the president held a gathering with representatives of the families of the victims of the ill-fated KRI Nanggala 402 at the Juanda Lanudal Hangar, Sidoarjo District.

Jokowi thereafter conducted a review of the planting and harvesting processes of rice in Kanigoro Village, Pagelaran Sub-District, Malang District.

The president will then head to the quake-hit location in Majangtengah Village, Dampit Sub-District, Malang District, where he will inspect trauma-healing tents, public kitchens, and refugee tentsClose
